ABOUT THE SNAIL OF APPROVAL PROGRAM
WHAT IS THE SNAIL OF APPROVAL?
The Snail of Approval is a member-driven process, with a committee made up of volunteers. Nominations can come from anyone who lives in or visits Miami.
The program is a resource to Slow Food members and the public, to inform them of which businesses are maintaining good, clean, and fair standards, to the best of their ability. Slow Food enthusiasts will look to the program as a guide when they visit Miami.
The hope is for the Snail of Approval to be a catalyst for improvement, in that some businesses may increase sustainable practices and the use of local and seasonal products, in the hope to qualify for the award.
Please note that nominations are not only limited to restaurants. Other purveyors (farmers, growers, producers) and artisans (bakers, chefs, food & beverage makers) can also be nominated.
THE IMPACT OF GOOD, CLEAN, FAIR FOOD.
It is our mission via the Snail of Approval program to guide residents and visitors to food that is good, clean and fair.
Slow Food Miami awards the Snail of Approval to producers, co-producers and artisans, in recognition of their contribution to the Quality, Authenticity and Sustainability of the food we eat and the beverages we drink in Miami.
We define the Good, Clean, Fair ethos as such:
GOOD
Believe in delicious nutrition as a right for everyday life
Cultivate joyful connections to community and place
Advocate for diversity in ecosystems and societies
CLEAN
Protect natural resources for future generations
Help people and the environment depend on each other
Promote food that is local, seasonal, and sustainably grown
FAIR
Build local cooperation and global collaboration while respecting all laws
Require no prerequisite or credential for participation
Fight for dignity of labor from field to fork
BECOME A SNAIL OF APPROVAL HONOREE
Each year Slow Food Miami awards a new group with the coveted Snail of Approval and honors past nominees at the Snail of Approval Tasting Parting. Often referred to as Miami's Freshest Night Out.
Nominate your establishment - or one you love - for a proven commitment to contributing to the good, clean, fair food & drink in Miami.
Winners for the Miami Chapter must show a commitment to using local and sustainable ingredients, and be able to show that they source regularly from at least 2 local sources, with locally sourced “main” ingredients showcased on AT LEAST 4 dishes on the menu.
